HOWDY!

 

“YEE-HAW!”  Mark your calendars for the McLish 34th Biennial Reunion.  The theme for the alumni activities will be “western”.  We don’t know how we’re going to work this into the first activity, the June 10 basketball game at McLish High School, but we will try.  The ladies’ game begins at 6 p.m. and the guys will follow.  The Sawyers will be hosting the event...again...thanks!  Come to see the true need for orthopedic shoes and oxygen!  The “old ones”(like us)  really should have better sense than to perpetuate the belief that some semblance of coordination still exists in our old, decrepit bodies.  Maybe Todd will ALLOW us to just “sit this one out.”  You know how he is.  We will have free throw contest, too...who won last time?!  If Kevin Flowers, ‘80 grad of McLish and current superintendent of the consolidated Stonewall/McLish school district, will allow us to roam all over the old stompin’ grounds, we will play the “Remember When” game...you may hear something about that at the banquet, too.

June 11---The days’ festivities begin with visitation at the Open House at McLish School from 1:30-3:30, hosted by Kevin Flowers and Jerry Winters.  Some changes have been made in the physical building and we’ll all want to see them.  McLish alumni folks will want to take pictures.  No, Kevin and Jerry...of the building and grounds, not you two!

Registration and visitation for the Western Banquet at the Elks’ Lodge in Ada will begin at 4 on June 11.  The location was ideal last year and we felt so “at home”.  Dress is casual and this year we will be moving a few things around, hollering Minnie Pearl “Howdies” more often, and Todd will be riding a horse...I’m kidding again, but wouldn’t that be something?!  This all befits another perfectly choreographed and highly polished routine that we have worked on for months.  the “we” is Todd Crabtree, Beth Crabtree, and myself, Susan McElroy Underwood.  Some people refer to us as “The Three Stooges”(among other titles), but we prefer some more appropriate western title, but none does come to mind.  OH...Beth and I will try to keep Todd from singing.  He used to think that he was Garth Brooks when he had a microphone in his hand, but now his look is more Keith Urban/ Kenny Chesney.  Hey, maybe the three of us could work up a Rascal Flatts ditty for you guys.  Just joking, don’t let that scare you away.  We do have door prizes!  Please come!  Todd’s phone number is 580/332-4132.  He loves hearing from you and is really the only person who knows ANYTHING about this reunion stuff.  Beth and I are just his “backup singers”.  Sad, but it works for us!  Actually none of us ever know what we’re going to do until we get there. That seems to keep things fresh, plus our minds are not much for memorizing fact and details anymore.  Never really were!  Ask our former teachers.  Right, Mr. Scott and Mrs. Whelchel?!  Once again, the price of purchasing a ticket has gone up...$18.50 per person including food, tax, and a 20% gratuity.  But just think of all you get for that...air conditioning, Todd in western wear, terrific lighting and sound, a great buffet of delightful foods, excellent company, and well, frankly, questionable entertainment.  Did I mention air conditioning?
