Minutes of the Last Event
The 32nd biennial reunion of McLish High School was held June 15-16, 2001. Approximately 175 people attended the ballgames at the school hosted by the Sawyer family. The high school building was open from 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. on June 16. This event was hosted by Jerry Winters, class of ’78 and faculty member. Visitation began at 4:00 p.m. at the East Central University ballroom on June 16. The banquet began at 6:00 p.m. with a traditional classroom roll call by Lisa Underhill Fillmore, Susan McElroy Underwood, Beth Crabtree, and Todd Crabtree. Gerald Stewart from the class of ’47 offered the invocation. Following dinner, Todd Crabtree reported on the progress of the school due to the bond issue passed in 1999. Janelle Lackey Robinson gave the McLish Enrichment Fund report and Kathy Stevenson Howry gave the advisory committee report. Susan McElroy Underwood pointed out the treasurer’s report and minutes in the program. Beth Crabtree read the names of graduates and former teachers that had passed away since the last reunion. The classes of ’50 and ’51 were recognized for the 50th anniversary of their graduation. June Hisaw Mapes gave the response of the class of ’50 and Beth Kent McElroy gave the ’51 response. Spirit of McLish awards were presented to twelve graduates for sixty or more years as alumni. The association also recognized two special faculty members, Fern Bishop Peery and Lorene Greenwood. The final event was the singing of the school song led by Christine Johnson Anderson with Deborah Jackson Gentry as pianist.
